‘Sachsblick’ is a homely holiday cottage with stunning views over Loch Goil in beautiful Argyll.
‘Sachsblick’ may seem like a strange name for a Scottish bungalow, but it’s actually a clever play on words by the people who originally built it, who spoke fluent German.
‘Hans Sachs’ was a cobbler and poet who featured in a German opera ‘Die Meistersinger’, and ‘blick’ means ‘view’. If you put these together you get ‘Sachsblick’, meaning ‘Cobbler View’.
Sure enough, if you gaze out east over the loch from the house, you can just see the top of ‘The Cobbler’, the 2900ft peak also known as Ben Arthur. Mystery solved!
